The news published in the OBSERVER last week that William John Roots, 1st Class P.O., son of Mr. and Mrs. Roots of Bonnersfield-lane, Harrow, had gone down in the Black Prince, was received with great regret in the district where he was well known. He went to school at Greenhill, and for 13 years had a successful career in the Navy, and rose to be captain of the gun crew. He took part in the chasing of the Goeben and the Breslau, and the capture of two German cruisers. He was 30 years of age. The deepest sympathy has been extended to Mr. and Mrs. Roots, and they wish, through the OBSERVER, to thank all the kind friends who have sent messages in their bereavement.
