Giving his first impressions, on joining the ship in 1915, Toby Scrimgeour wrote of Captain Cay that "he seems a very good sort; he is considerably older than the Admiral, [Note: 18 months! But to an 18 year old ....] who is and looks extraordinarily young and is most energetic." The Admiral had been Captain of College for a year when he was at Osborne. He had just been to tea with the Hoods, and wrote, 23rd July 1915 "they have a house on shore near our base, with a tennis court and some excellent strawberry beds. As there are two A1 daughters of seventeen and nineteen, you can bet their hospitality is fully appreciated. There are also two sweet little boys of six and two." |
