NAVAL GUNNER KILLED
Gunner John Pearson Hayes, whose relatives live at 4, Green Square, Pendleton, was killed on May 31 while serving on H.M.S. Lion. Hayes, who joined the Navy in the early days of the war, was twenty years of age. He was formerly a junior wireless operator with the Harrison-Rennie Line.
