Summary
Some of HMS Falmouth's officers taking a break in the run-up to the Battle of Jutland, 20 minutes before "the alarm". (Image courtesy of John McDonald.) Only four are identified: Commander Bertram Thomas Carlyle Ogilvy Freeman Mitford, Lieutenant Guy Florance Bickersteth Ottley, Engineer Commander George Henry Scullard, in overalls, and "Kaiser Bill". All the officers survived the torpedoing of 19 August 1916, and, since the crew not killed in the attack were all taken off, we must hope Bill also survived to fight another day.
