THE death occurred at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital on 29 May of Mr Harry Stanley Curry, aged 85 years, of 19 Or- chard Gardens, Dawlish. He Was the third child of Mr and Mrs Richard Curry of Old Town Street. He leaves the widow and an only daughter
Joining the Royal Navy in 1905, he was at the battle of Jut- land on the battleship HMS Collingwood, in which the late King George VI served. It is in- teresting to note that the King recognised Mr Curry and spoke to him when he visited Plymouth in 1942 at the time of the blitz. Mr Curry also saw service in the same ship as the late Duke of Windsor
He retired from the navy in 1922 with the rank of petty of- ficer and for a time was beach supervisor on the main beach at Dawlish. He was recalled to the Royal Navy in the 1938 mobilisa- tion and until March 1940 was on HMS Vasna, stationed in Ceylon. From then on he was stationed at Plymouth and final- ly in 1943, he was at the com- mando training establishment in Appledore.
The funeral service was held at Exeter Crematorium on Fri- day. The family present were Mrs H Pudner, daughter; MR E. Smallridge, grandson; Mrs L. Whalley, niece, also representing Mrs Coleridge and Mr E. Cur- ry, who were unable to attend because of ill-health; and Mr J. Whalley, great nephew.
Messrs G.B. Avant and son, Ltd, carried out the funeral arrangements.
